The executive committees of the ANC and AAC adopted a joint resolution on the Second World War. They expressed support for the British Commonwealth war effort while insisting that Africans serving in the war receive full recognition from the South African government. Their intervention highlighted the contradiction between calls for African loyalty and service and the Unionโ€™s denial of equal political rights and citizenship.
