The Multi-Party Negotiating Process resumes

Representatives of 26 political parties and organisations began a new multi-party negotiating process at Kempton Park after CODESA’s collapse. The forum widened participation to include groups previously absent, while the ANC continued to insist on an elected constituent assembly and a transition to majority rule. Negotiations were again accompanied by political violence and disputes about the legitimacy of participants and the interim arrangements.
