The Sunday Post launches a campaign to release Mandela

Editor Percy Qoboza launched a campaign for Mandela’s release in the Sunday Post. A petition soon gathered more than 86,000 signatures and received support from organizations and public figures; a Release Nelson Mandela Committee formed under Nokukhanya Luthuli. This was an organized South African campaign, not simply a foreign appeal, and it widened the public challenge to apartheid imprisonment.
