Mandela returned to South Africa via Botswana after travelling through Africa and Britain. The Nelson Mandela Foundation dates his return to 23 July; some secondary timelines give 24 July. The date here follows the Foundation chronology. He returned to underground organizing, carrying contacts and training that supported the ANC’s resistance work.
