Police arrest Mandela in the Treason Trial sweep

Police raided Mandela’s home and arrested him in a nationwide operation against Congress of the People leaders. In total, 156 people were charged with high treason. The accused included women and men from different communities and political organizations. The prosecution sought to criminalize the liberation movement’s program; the charge was an allegation, not a finding of guilt.
