At a Transvaal Anti-South African Indian Council conference in Johannesburg, Allan Boesak called for a united front against government constitutional proposals. The initiative opposed reforms that allocated representation through racial categories while excluding the African majority. It helped set in motion a coalition of community, youth, religious and other organizations committed to a democratic political order.
