Nashville lunch counters begin serving Black customers

Following months of sit-ins, local pressure and negotiations, several downtown Nashville lunch counters began serving Black customers on a nonsegregated basis. Student organization helped change business practices. The victory addressed access to public service while leaving broader inequalities in employment, political power and other institutions for continuing campaigns.
