BRICS Parliamentary Forum adopts joint declaration

Ministers addressed climate action and environmental cooperation while recognizing differences in national circumstances.

After meetings on 28–29 April, Brazil’s chair issued a statement on multilateral reform, peace and Global South cooperation. It was a chair’s statement.

The ministers called for World Trade Organization reform, greater developing-country participation and cooperation on the digital economy.

Ministers linked cultural exchange with inclusion, sustainability and a more plural global order.

The high-level meeting advanced coordinated climate action, energy transition and more equitable climate finance ahead of the Rio summit and COP30.

Brazil announced Vietnam’s formal admission to the partner category. It was the tenth partner, not a full member.

Ministers backed joint action on diseases linked to poverty and inequality, with attention to tuberculosis and vaccine cooperation.

Finance ministers and central bank governors addressed development finance, international tax cooperation and IMF governance ahead of the leaders’ summit.

Leaders of the expanded group adopted a wide-ranging declaration on cooperation, more representative governance, sustainable development and peace.

The summit called for more equitable access to artificial intelligence and stronger representation for developing countries in global rules.
