Under the auspices of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), more than 170 women representing women societies and unions from the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the Diaspora meet and decide to establish the General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) as a body affiliated with the PLO and as an umbrella organization for Palestinian women associations and unions.
