The Knesset Issues the Prevention of Infiltration Law

← Back to Dashboard
📅 16 August 1954 📍 Palestine

The law is part of the Israeli campaign to prevent the return of individual refugees across the cease-fire lines and to expel Palestinians who reside in Israeli-controlled territory "unlawfully." The law defines as an "infiltrator" every person who at any time between 29 November 1947 and his entry in Israel was a Palestinian citizen or a Palestinian resident "and who, during the said period, left his ordinary place of residence in an area which has become a part of Israel for a place outside Israel." The definition of infiltrator also includes every person who at any time between 29 November 1947 and his entry was a national or citizen of Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Transjordan, Iraq, or Yemen.
